Conditions Treated
Depression is undertreated, leading to needless suffering and disability. Some people think they should be depressed, for instance in the face of life’s difficult problems, but Major Depression is a medical condition, treatable with integrative wellness-oriented medical approaches along with appropriate psychotherapy and behavioral coaching. Depression may be difficult to fully treat, an issue made worse by the symptoms of helplessness and hopelessness which often accompany the condition. New treatments which work for treatment-resistant depression may be able to help if other approaches have failed. We will work with you, your loved ones, and other members of your treatment team.
GAD is treatable with medications, some forms of therapy, and wellness-oriented approaches including meditation and relaxation work. We focus on medical care of GAD while ensuring that the overall course of prescribed treatment is evidence-based, monitoring for response and making timely treatment changes if there should be more improvement.
Fortunately, in most cases panic disorder can be significantly alleviated and even resolve fully with proper treatment. Treatment can include medication as well as therapeutic approaches, often involving cognitive behavioral therapy and relaxation work. We can help to evaluate and treatment panic with medication in collaboration with appropriate therapy referral and treatment monitoring.
Fortunately, in addition to behavioral treatment, there are affective medications and other psychiatric interventions. Medication can reduce overall anxiety, and include antidepressants and other antianxiety agents, as well as medications which can block the action of adrenalin in the body, reducing physical symptoms of anxiety. In addition, treatments such as TMS and neurofeedback can offer relief and do not require the use of medication. People with social anxiety can benefit from psychotherapy both to help overcome anxiety during social situations, and also to understand the origins of social anxiety and address them at their roots.
OCD is treatable with medications and therapy, often require combined and more intensive approaches to get significant relief. OCD may not fully resolve in a short period of time, and the treatment of OCD therefore is often chronic and requires experienced providers to help manage expectations and get long-term relief, rather than give up on treatment in the short-term when improvement is gradual.
ADHD responds well to medication and non-pharmacologic treatment (such as behavioral therapy and neurofeedback) and coaching, and requires thoughtful care to ensure the best outcome. We can work with you to obtain a proper evaluation, make sure causes of inattention and impulsivity other than ADHD are considered as part of treatment-planning, and provide treatment and care management to get you on track.
Ninety percent of patients who see us for initial evaluation will enter treatment at Neighborhood Psychiatry.
If we don’t provide the care you need, we will do our best to point you in the right direction with expert recommendations.
Our Reviews
I have been going here for almost a year and I have nothing but great things to say. My doctor is kind, caring, empathetic, and understanding of all my issues. He always listens and provides excellent feedback. I look forward to my visits each month. I can communicate with him via email and he responds right away. The receptionist is always friendly and helpful. I don’t see how so many people have had such bad experiences. It’s so great there, that I have recommended this place to two other friends and they love it as well. Thanks Neighborhood Psychiatry! Keep up the great job!

Honestly, I really am a fan of this place–it was recommended by my therapist and I’ve been going here for over a year. Decided to finally write a review because I noticed the current reviews are not reflective of the service I’ve had. Finding a good psychiatrist in NYC was actually really hard for me–kept running into people who didn’t care or didn’t seem to really know their stuff. And so, for me, finding a place where they give you a 30 minute appointment instead of the usual 15, in and out, was a relief. I feel like my psychiatrist finally KNOWS me and gives a dang about me.

I have been coming here for around a year and have only positive things to say. Both the administrative and medical staff have been wonderful – Dr. Yu is so thoughtful in his treatment approach and has helped me immensely. In regards to the office, I would often have to reschedule appointments because of unexpected work conflicts, and the staff was always accommodating in doing so. The transition from in person to virtual appointments in the past few months has been much more seamless than any other similar business, from my experience.
